As I begin this message, Election Day is just one week away. Have you returned your ballot?
If you need help getting to the Elections Office (the safest place to deposit your precious ballot is in their ballot box in the office) please call me, or one of our members that live close to you. I’m sure that any of us would be happy to deliver your ballot, or take you to the Elections Office so that you can turn it in yourself. You may have seen the reports that at least 3 ballot boxes have been set on fire in Oregon and the state of Washington. Especially this year, every single vote counts immensely! As our candidates have stated, the only way they can win is if every Republican votes for our excellent candidates - as well as some Non-Affiliated Voters (NAVs) and maybe a few awakened Democrats too. Sadly, we are outnumbered without people to help us cross the finish line. Check with your neighbors, family members and friends to make sure they have voted, and either encourage them to vote and deliver their ballot, or offer to take it to the Election Office ballot box yourself. I hope that we’ll be celebrating the election results at our Membership meeting on November 21st! Please remember to check the Meal Train for our hard-working Chair of Fundraising, Sharon Arends, who has had knee surgery and will not be with us for a while. The link to sign up to bring her a meal is: https://mealtrain.com/ddk516. Choose a date, ask a friend to help you prepare a meal and deliver it together! Sharon’s address is 35120 SW Cloudrest Lane, Hillsboro OR 97123. Thank you for helping out as she recovers. Do you have a family member or friend who is a veteran? On November 11th our nation will be celebrating Veteran’s Day. Our Education Committee member Cindy Sawyer will be giving us a brief history of Veteran’s Day at our Membership meeting, and she would like to honor our loved ones who are veterans. Please contact Cindy at either (503) 490-4139 or [email protected] to add your loved ones to her list. I know that many of us have spouses or other family members who are veterans-let’s make sure they are all remembered! Speaking of Veterans, Kathy Montgomery, Chair of our Armed Services Committee sends you this message: Dear BHRW members, November 8th, Friday will be our opportunity to serve ice cream sundaes to the 56 veterans, spouses, and children (71 total). These veterans are currently homeless and are given 9 months of temporary housing at the family center. It is held at the Salvation Army Family Center at 14825 SW Farmington in Beaverton. Our speaker for the Luncheon Meeting on Thursday, June 20 will be one of our newer members of BHRW, Mary Chalkiopoulos, better known as Mary Chalk. She has been tirelessly working in the group Truth in Elections, formerly known as the Election Integrity Team of Washington County. Mary was the first speaker at the Oregon Republican Party’s Election Symposium in Keizer on May 24th, paving the way for the day. She will be presenting some very interesting information, updating us on what has been discovered as well as presenting a solution. Come and learn more about our elections! Remember that on our meeting days The Spaghetti Factory doors open for you at 11:00, and our meeting begins promptly at 11:20. Register, select your lunch & pay at https://www.bhrwf.org/ by Sunday, June 16th (which is also Father’s Day). Don’t forget! Come early to check in, greet your current friends, make new friends, and select your seat. Speaking of elections, we have three very strong Republican candidates running for statewide office: Dennis Linthicum for Secretary of State Brian Boquist for Treasurer Will Lathrop for Attorney General You will be able to hear from each of them personally at our Thursday, September 19th Candidate & Fundraiser Dinner at the Stockpot Boiler Restaurant, as each of them have committed to attend and be our main speakers. Each one has a unique skill set which has prepared them well for the office they are seeking. What a difference they could make in Oregon! They will mingle with us over cocktails before dinner, giving you an opportunity to get acquainted and ask questions before we listen to their presentations at the microphone. We will also be inviting all Washington County candidates for office to speak briefly about their vision for the position they are seeking. This is an event to inform you and help our candidates while also enjoying socializing over a delicious dinner. There will also be items to bid on, purchase, and a dessert dash to complete our meal in a fun and delicious way. This is an event that you will want to attend! Below are the details you need to add the event to your calendar. Be sure to make your reservations on our website, https://www.bhrwf.org. Before and between these two major events we have two other events for smaller groups. The first event later this week is a Membership Coffee on Thursday, June 13th at 10 a.m. This event is available to anyone who may be interested in learning more about BHRW. This is an informational, casual meeting for the purpose of explaining who we are and what we do, getting acquainted with each other and answering any questions people may have about our organization. There is no pressure to sign up at this time, but the opportunity is there if they would like to. If you know someone who may be interested, please invite them and just let Gail Wilhelms, Membership Chair (503-730-0164) or Laurel Regan (503-880-7991), hostess of the event at her home (3801 NW Loriann Dr. Portland). Also attending will be myself, Elaine Woods, President; Helen Heller, 1st Vice President Co-Chair; Kim Rice (2nd Vice President); and Charlotte Bushnell, Secretary.
Also, when you go online to make your lunch reservation for next week, remember to reserve your seat for a fun evening watching the Hillsboro HOPS play against the Everett AquaSox on Friday, August 9th. You’ll be watching the Star Wars theme game from the 3rd base side private Party Deck with dinner included (a much better selection of food than a quick hot dog) and ending the evening with fireworks. And all this for just $62! Space is limited, so get your reservation in soon! Once again, for your convenience, information for these events will be found on our webpage at https://www.bhrwf.org/. You can register for each of these events at the same time, or just to make sure you get your purchases in before the deadlines. This promises to be a good season with fun and informative opportunities to enjoy time together, summer into fall! I hope to see you there. Elaine Woods BHRW President April President’s Message
Jenny Donnelly brought her Mama Bear message “#Don’t Mess With Our Kids” to our BHRW March meeting. Her presentation was powerful, and her entourage of young women was enthusiastic as well. We also welcomed visitors from other Republican Women Clubs, expanding and solidifying our connections with our sister clubs and strengthening our relationships with them. New Starting Time, Beginning February 15th - 11:00 AM Our first update involves an adjustment in the time we can enter the restaurant, as The Old Spaghetti Factory has changed their opening time. They will be opening their doors for us at 11:00, rather than 10:45. This will slightly cut short our time for mingling before the meeting, as we still want to value your time, and will begin our meeting again at 11:15. It will help to speed up the line if you’re able to both RSVP and pay online ahead of time, so that those working at the door can be quick and efficient in checking you in. Thank you so much for your co-operation as we adjust to the changes at our new restaurant! They have been very accommodating for us, and they appreciate our business. A Big Thank you for Our Speakers Last Month! Thank you Christina Buehler, for introducing us to your new Free Oregon Super PAC! It sounds like there are many possibilities for connecting with others for trainings, discussions and many kinds of events. I hope we can arrange a time for a bit of hands on coaching – I am one of those who are not extremely savvy with technology, and would like to be able to embrace and participate in all you have planned for your PAC. Thank you also, Kim Rice for introducing our members who are not currently Precinct Committee People to the great value in this position. This is definitely the Grassroots level of influence, as it increases the effectiveness of our voices as we elect those we want as our local leaders. You will hear more about this later! Membership Coffee Thursday, February 8th at 10 AM. Do you have a friend who may be interested in joining BHRW? If so, invite them to attend this time of “Casual Coffee & Conversation”! It’s a good time for people to ask questions, learn about who we are and what we do, and decide if they would like to join us! To make sure they’re on the list, please email Gail at [email protected] or call her at (503)730-0164. February 15th Speaker, Please join us... Plan to attend our next membership meeting and listen to Donna Kreitzberg’s, Education Freedom for Oregon explanation of the importance of her two Statewide Educational Initiative Petitions, which we hope to get on the November 5th ballot! These changes can greatly improve the educational possibilities for our children and grandchildren! Come and learn, and find out what you can do to help! Watch for the announcement and RSVP invitation for our Membership Luncheon – there is much more I could tell you about, but you’ll just need to come, enjoy new friends and old, as you listen and hear the news fresh for yourselves!
